Master of Science in Information Technology: Computer Networks and Security

The Computer Networks and Security strand of the MSIT offers students advanced knowledge in core IT fields such as database management and systems analysis and design, together with a concentration in network engineering and network security. It prepares students to acquire a competitive advantage as highly trained professionals able to design, develop and maintain secure network infrastructures.

Strengths of the MSIT Strand in Computer Networks and Security

The program draws upon a set of competitive strengths, such as fully equipped Cisco-based labs for hands-on sessions and courses provided in collaboration with ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association). In fact, the program is listed as one of the two worldwide that are aligned with the ISACA curriculum in Information Security.

In addition, students in the program are able to:

  • Participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in areas such as embedded systems and pattern recognition.
  • Qualify for one year of work experience towards the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM® designation).
  • Earn the CISCO CCNA certificate.
  • Expand their security knowledge by studying from a range of electives such as Information Security Management, Applied Cryptography and Application Risk Management.

MSIT on Computer Networks and Security Career Paths

Alumni of the strand in Computer Networks and Security are equipped with the skills to follow a career path as network engineers, network administrators, information security and network security managers. During their studies they will also have the opportunity to obtain specialized, elite certifications in the field of secure networks design and security management.

Program Structure

You will need to complete a total of 4 core courses, 6 elective courses, plus a thesis project and a Graduate Seminar course (36 credits in total) to earn a Master of Science in Information Technology over a period of eighteen months (three semesters).

Certifications

In the framework of this program, students can qualify for one year of work experience towards the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM® designation) and for the Cisco CCNA certificate.

What You’ll Learn

Graduates of the Computer Networks and Security strand obtain a concrete basis on a variety of IT fields, including databases management and systems’ analysis and design, along with an advanced expertise on networks design and development and networks security management. Moreover, through group projects and hands–on sessions, students enhance teamwork capabilities and management skills.

In the context of the program, students are expected to have generated research products such as papers, theses, and prototype systems, which integrate the knowledge gained throughout their studies.
