This November, we were proud to partner with the University of Jordan and AMIDEAST for a four-day undergraduate academic field study to Amman – the ancient city of Philadelphia.
The program offered a dynamic survey of Greco-Roman, Nabataean, and early Christian sites, modern Middle Eastern politics, and Jordanian civil society organizations, including engagements with research institutions, media, social impact and art foundations, as well as a service opportunity under the auspices of UNICEF in support of Palestinian and Syrian youths.
Students particularly enjoyed seeing Greek influences first-hand in the expansive archeological sites of Jerash and Petra, and learning about facets of regional diplomacy from Greek Ambassador to Jordan, Irene Riga.
The Beyond Borders field study initiative at Hellenic American University, open to all undergraduates and study abroad students, underscores the institutional mission of the university to develop global citizens and embrace experiential learning. Through immersive travel and site-specific instruction, the university offers exciting new educational opportunities for regional collaboration and leadership development. Faculty-led programs under the guidance of Director of Civic Engagement Cameron Bell have previously brought HAU students to Cairo, Alexandria, and Istanbul.
Thank you to our many outstanding partners for their insight and warm hospitality!
