Business Administration (MBA): Rolling Cohort

With an international focus, the MBA program (rolling cohort) cultivates entrepreneurial strategic thinking within the context of an increasingly global, information-driven business world.

Students in the MBA program acquire a robust theoretical foundation and practical learning in core management disciplines and the technical skills and digital competencies needed for data-driven decision-making.

Global content is an important part of the MBA program and is reflected in the selection of case studies, faculty research projects and student projects, as well as an optional two-week study trip in Greece. As part of the curriculum students also work together on a project commissioned by an international company on a global management topic. Students gain additional experience in working in cross-national teams through credit-bearing e-learning courses which students from the Nashua and Athens campuses take at the same time.

Master of Science in Informatics: Computer Networks and Security

The Computer Networks and Security strand of the MSI offers students advanced knowledge in core Informatics fields such as database management and systems analysis and design, together with a concentration in network engineering and network security. It prepares students to acquire a competitive advantage as highly trained professionals able to design, develop and maintain secure network infrastructures.

Strengths of the MSI Strand in Computer Networks and Security

The program draws upon a set of competitive strengths, such as fully equipped Cisco-based labs for hands-on sessions and courses provided in collaboration with ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association). In fact, the program is listed as one of the two worldwide that are aligned with the ISACA curriculum in Information Security.

In addition, students in the program are able to:

  • Participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in areas such as embedded systems and pattern recognition.
  • Qualify for one year of work experience towards the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM® designation).
  • Earn the CISCO CCNA certificate.
  • Expand their security knowledge by studying from a range of electives such as Information Security Management, Applied Cryptography and Application Risk Management.

MSI on Computer Networks and Security Career Paths

Alumni of the strand in Computer Networks and Security are equipped with the skills to follow a career path as network engineers, network administrators, information security and network security managers. During their studies they will also have the opportunity to obtain specialized, elite certifications in the field of secure networks design and security management.

Program Structure

You will need to complete a total of 4 core courses and 6 elective courses, plus a thesis project (36 credits in total) to earn a Master of Science in Informatics.

For the Computer Networks and Security program, the elective courses can be chosen from the following group of courses:

  • IT 6278 Governance and Compliance
  • IT 6279 Applied Cryptography
  • IT 6280 Network and Computer Security

Certifications

In the framework of this program, students can qualify for one year of work experience towards the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM® designation) and for the Cisco CCNA certificate.

What You’ll Learn

Graduates of the Computer Networks and Security strand obtain a concrete basis on a variety of Informatics fields, including databases management and systems’ analysis and design, along with an advanced expertise on networks design and development and networks security management. Moreover, through group projects and hands–on sessions, students enhance teamwork capabilities and management skills.

In the context of the program, students are expected to have generated research products such as papers, theses, and prototype systems, which integrate the knowledge gained throughout their studies.

Master of Science in Informatics: Applications and Software Development

The Master of Science in Informatics strand in Applications and Software Development provides students advanced knowledge in software engineering, enterprise system applications, operating systems and advanced programming languages. The combination of industry-relevant coursework, exposure to new technologies, and opportunities for networking and original research will equip you to compete for leadership positions in the field.

Strengths of the MSI Strand in Applications and Software Development

The program in Applications and Software Development is revised each year in light of emerging technologies in regards to programming languages and techniques, and is supported by dedicated labs (e.g. Linux, IBM, Apple) to provide hands–on experience in programming. Program strengths include the following:

  • Hands–on software developing experience through participation in ongoing faculty-student research projects.
  • Internationally recognized visiting faculty and industry experts.
  • Wide selection of electives such as Informatics Hardware and Software, Decision Support Systems and Advanced Software Engineering.

Applications and Software Development Career Paths

The program is designed to support both traditional and emerging career opportunities. Graduates in this strand obtain competitive advantage in career paths related to application developing, managing the development of software systems, as well as design and requirements analysis of information systems. MSI students acquire this knowledge through the diverse core courses of the program, such as Informatics Strategy and Management and System Analysis and Design, in combination with a variety of elective courses.

What You’ll Learn

On completing the program you will have acquired essential skills, knowledge and values, including thorough knowledge of current and emerging concepts in Information Systems and cutting-edge technological skills that can be applied towards the design and development of advanced software systems and applications. In addition, you will acquire project management skills and teamwork abilities.

After completing the program, you will have created a basic portfolio comprising research papers and software applications that will enhance your position in the market as a software developer.

Master of Science in Informatics: Business Computing and Big Data Analytics

The Business Computing and Big Data Analytics strand bring students onto the edge of technological and market advances. Big Data Analytics is a fast-growing field that is being used in a large variety of businesses. It has allowed organizations to understand the significance of analyzing large amounts of business-related data to reduce costs, facilitate decision-making and create new products and services.

The Business Computing and Big Data Analytics strand covers both the technological concepts behind Big Data Analytics and the main means of applying this technology to Business Computing. It comprises advanced knowledge and applications of investigative data mining techniques, data warehousing, artificial intelligence & neural networks, as well as Informatics strategy and management based on such technologies.

Strengths of the MSI Strand in Business Computing and Big Data Analytics

The program focuses on applying emerging technologies in real case studies in a range of hands–on courses and exploiting advanced simulation software on big data analytics and business computing from IBM and Microsoft.

The program is designed to support a variety of career opportunities in the field of Business Computing and Big Data Analytics. Alumni will be able to follow career paths both in the design and development of big data analytics algorithms and technologies, and in the implementation of such technologies in business use cases and e-business applications.

What You'll Learn

On completing the program you will have acquired basic knowledge and skills in a variety of fields in Informatics, including database management, project management, data and communication networks, as well as specialized skills in data analytics algorithms, data mining, data warehousing, pattern analysis, neural networks, and application methods of such technologies. In addition, you will acquire teamwork abilities and a capacity for outcome-oriented deliverables.

In the context of the program you will also have generated research products such as papers, theses, and prototype systems, which integrate the knowledge gained throughout your studies.

Certificates

Students in the program can choose to specialize and receive certification in one of the following areas:

  • Shipping Management (online)
  • Management Information Systems
  • Stress Health Management

A certificate is earned by completing a specific combination of 3 to 4 electives. To complete the MBA program students also need to complete a capstone project.

MBA students completing the Certificate in Digital Marketing may also pursue the internationally recognized Online Marketing Certified Associate (OMCA™) Certification. The Operational Excellence Certificate prepares students for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) or the Project Management Professional (PMP®) designations of the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Research & Academic Exchange

The MBA offers opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty-student research projects in various business disciplines and fields. Students may design their Capstone project as a consultancy project for any SME or corporation, or develop a research-based thesis under the supervision of a faculty member with research experience in the field.

Qualified students attending MBA programs at universities abroad may participate in the MBA Rolling Cohort program as a visiting exchange student for one or more five-week courses. The University’s Office of International Exchange Programs can help students abroad arrange such study opportunities.
